Who we are
Soccer has been played in Broome since the 1950s. In these days, it was four teams competing which included players who were workers at the Broome Prison and from the Malaysian pearling industry, the games were played on what is now the Broome Civic Centre.
In the 1990s, the Broome Soccer Association became Incorporated, and at this stage, the competition consisted of 6 Senior men’s teams.
In the early 2000s, the Association moved to Male Oval where casual games were played for a number of years. In 2005, the Association was re-established with a more formal setup. This included the launch in 2006 of the first MiniRoos program in Broome and was played on Male oval. A competition was developed and included 5 Senior Mixed Teams, the Pearl Coast Pirates, Hagan’s Heroes, Broome City, Racing Guantanamo and NDFC who all competed in the newly formed competition, the B Liga!
During this time there were representative matches against Derby with an annual mixed St Patricks Day Challenge and in 2009, Broome’s senior women played their first representative game against a Newman team on Male Oval in Broome.
2009 saw the Association move its base to the new BRAC facility. The additional size of the ovals space saw numbers quickly grow to over 400 players across Juniors, Youth and Senior participants. These numbers have continued to grow over the years as well as the opportunities for players and teams to compete in various competitions throughout the State and in overseas. BRAC remains the home of Broome Soccer where it continues to grow as one of Broome’s most popular sports.
